--COMMITTEES - BUILT GREEN® COLORADO

Built Green® Colorado encourages home builders, suppliers and manufacturers to use technologies, products and practices to build homes that are better built and better for the environment.  Colorado has the most successful green building program in the nation with more than 30,000 homes having registered with the program by the close of 2005.  The statewide, voluntary program was introduced in 1995 through the joint efforts of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA), The Governor’s Office of Energy Management and Conservation, Xcel Energy, and E-Star Colorado.

Specifications:
To achieve the Built Green distinction, homes must be designed and constructed to comply with a rigorous checklist of more than 200 features in 22 categories covering energy efficiency, materials, health, safety and resource conservation. A Built Green home requires less maintenance, provides cleaners indoor air quality, is built with higher quality materials and will save the home buyer money. In 2003, Built Green Colorado was voted the nation’s best green building program by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center.

Membership:

  • In 2005, over 4,771 new homes were registered in the Built Green Colorado program, representing approximately 28% of all new home permits in Colorado.
  • Built Green has more than 130 builder members across the state and 57 industry sponsors.

Built Green is supported in part by the financial contributions of seven Industry Leaders including: James Hardie Building Products; The Rheem Team; Boise Building Solutions; Trex; Whirlpool Corporation; Kurowski Development; and Grace Construction Products.
