Overview

The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA) is a trade organization representing 600+ businesses involved in the residential development, construction and remodeling industry throughout the eight-county metro area.  The HBA’s mission is to improve its members’ abilities to responsibly meet the housing needs of our community. 

The HBA carries out its mission through a variety of activities including educating and training programs through the HBA University (HBAU). This role as one of the main components of our level of service, directly impacts the industry workforce - increasing levels of professionalism and career skills.  The HBAU addresses a variety of audiences, including:

  • External – trainers, speakers, potential new members.
  • Internal – association leadership, members, and staff.

The Manager of Education and Training is a full time professional and fast-paced position managing the educational and training needs of the entire scope of membership. Strong leadership and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are required. Frequent interaction with association staff, association members and trainers/speakers along with strong verbal and written communication skills and a people-oriented personality are sought. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, enhance and collaborate with leadership team and the builder and associate members across the organization to prioritize educational and training offerings for the overall growth and strategy of the association and its members; including but not limited to the following responsibilities: 
  • Support the development, growth and professionalism of our current and potential members. Help increase membership by offering quality “must-have” programs. 
  • Lead the continuous advancement of HBAU participation and profits through education program development, engagement, and retention. 
  • Conduct regular evaluations of HBAU course offerings to assess their value to the members and the association, effectiveness, and revenue generation.  
  • Identify and develop new HBAU course content, including identifying speakers, course materials, schedules, developing budgets, coordination of promotional materials, etc.
  • Identify current HBAU course offerings in need of improvement, expansion, or deletion and carry out same.  
  • Ensure that the scope, quality of trainers and programs, and success metrics for projects are well defined, understood and measured. 
  • Review and deliver new features and products across accredited and developmental scope of education based on member wants and needs.
  • Annually work with other department and Council/Committee chairs to coordinate a complete association educational calendar for the purposes of identifying gaps, overlaps, duplications, and/or inefficiencies.
  • Assist other departments and their committees, councils and programs to conduct periodic evaluations of course offerings to assess their value to the members and the association, effectiveness, and revenue generation using standard tools and templates of evaluation.  Such evaluation shall include the Manager’s recommendations regarding the course offerings, including continuation or deletion from the educational calendar.
  • Manage, schedule and regularly communicate with trainers, speakers and potential trainers and speakers.
  • Provide training to select courses, if applicable. 
  • Coordinate, maintain and attend as staff liaison assigned HBA committees. 
  • Become knowledgeable with the issues and matters pertaining to the committee’s area of concern. 
  • Work with committee chair and members to ensure the advancement of the mission, policies and objectives of the HBA through the committee’s work; prepare and distribute meeting agendas, make calls as necessary, attend to organizational needs, etc., in advance of meetings.  
  • Manage, establish or maintain approved partnerships to ensure the advancement of the mission, policies and objectives of the HBA (e.g. the HomeSafe partnership with OSHA).

Candidate Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have professional experience in residential development and construction industry education and training and related management experience.
  • Candidate will be fluent in Spanish.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
