Award Winning Members
2009 Builder of the Year – Rip Reid, Standard Pacific Homes, started his career in 1977 with Writer Homes. In those early years working with an icon of our industry, Geoi Writer, Rip built upon the skills and values that were engrained in him as a decorated veteran of the Marine Corp. In the course of his career Rip has advanced to the position he currently holds at Standard Pacific Homes, Senior Vice President. His leadership experience has also extended to giving back to the industry in which he has worked for 30 years. An active member of the HBA, he has served in multiple ways and his record of accomplishment has brought him to where he is today as Vice President Treasurer of the HBA. In two years he will take the helm as president of the association and as such we can say with a confidence that this is a man prepared to lead and serve this industry in yet another way.
2009 Associate of the Year – Denise Zeigler, The Denver Post, received this award at the Installation and Recognition Event. Denise’s contributions to the HBA can be traced back as far as 1988, when she first served on the committee overseeing Home Builder magazine, and continues today with her service as chair of the Public Relations Strategy committee and on the Board of Directors. She is a good and committed friend of the association and the industry who, with creativity and energy, has always sought to be of service wherever and when ever she can.
In addition to working tirelessly on behalf of the HBA for many years as a volunteer, Denise has also been influential in bringing to bear the significant resources of the major media organizations for which she has worked over the years. And, while Denise’s career roots are in the media, the depth and breath of her relationships in the home building industry have been just as influential to the growth and measure of the HBA.
Her long standing support and the creative energy she brings to the association are truly appreciated and certainly worthy of our recognition.
2009 Volunteer of the Year - Jeff McGovern, Lennar Homes, is the Director of Construction for Lennar Colorado. Jeff is an individual who embodies the characteristics of an ideal volunteer, one who not only contributes to the success of the organization but also to its vitality.
Jeff has contributed to the betterment of home building in metro Denver for many years. He made a significant difference that has benefited the entire membership through his dedication and energies as a member of several committees and as a Metro Housing Coalition Board Member.
When the call to arms goes out seeking critical advocacy representation for home builders and developers, when supporting efforts to make changes to significant municipal policies and ordinances for the betterment of the industry is needed, when building relational alliances with elected officials within the HBA’s charter is necessary, Jeff’s personal contributions have always been backed up by results.
Jeff’s strong support of the HBA and the industry coupled with his professional demeanor and expertise has set the example to challenge others by understanding the value of contributing one’s time and energy to a cause.
2009 Home Builders Foundation Volunteer of the Year
Paige Lentz, president and owner of, Monarch Companies was presented the Home Builders Foundation Volunteer of the Year award for 2009. The nominees for the award were judged on their overall commitment to the Home Builders Foundation, their professionalism, leadership within the building industry and participation on HBF projects.
Paige first became involved with the foundation in 2006, as Monarch Companies completed a large remodel for a family in Denver. Since that time, Monarch Site Services provides asbestos abatement for HBF projects when needed.
In 2008 she was elected to the HBF Board of Directors and has added an energy and enthusiasm to each committee, council and board meeting she attends.
As Chair of the Fundraising Council, Paige presented a new fundraising effort with the first annual HBF “Grapes and Galleries” event held in June, 2009. The event was not only a financial success; everyone who attended enjoyed the wine and socializing.
Paige was recognized by the Denver Business Journal as “The Outstanding Woman in Business” in the construction industry. Just when it seems as though she has no more time to volunteer, Paige was recently installed as the president of the Junior League of Metro Denver.
At the HBF Luncheon in 2008 recruitment began for a builder to take the lead on an extreme remodel for the Jaramillo family. Monarch Companies stepped up and took on the challenge once again. Paige made sure that the Jaramillo project was truly a team effort, not only within her company, but within the foundation.
Paige has a contagious energy that has spread throughout her company and those involved with the Home Builders Foundation. She is deeply respected by all who are privileged to work along side of her. Paige Lentz represents a true volunteer, and the HBF appreciates all of her efforts!
