Publications & News
The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver publishes a variety of timely and informational publications to provide members with need-to-know information.
- The Home Builder e-News is a bi-weekly electronic publication that provides HBA members with a snapshot of the association's upcoming events.
- Home Builder Advocate is a bi-weekly update on key housing policy issues affecting the HBA and its membership.
- Home Builder magazine is the premier publication for home building professionals working in the Denver metro region.
- Monthly Housing Permit Reports are available by subscription.
The HBA also occasionally publishes white papers or position statements on key issues impacting the housing industry.
- Water Use, Water Conservation, Water Development & the Home Building Industry. The historic drought of 2002 and the subsequent dry years reinforced the fact that the responsible management and development of our water resources are critical to sustaining the quality of life that makes Colorado one of the most desirable places to live, work and raise a family. The HBA prepared this white paper to assist in informing elected officials throughout the Denver metro area about the facts and also the myths of water use in residential settings by the home building industry.
- HBA policy statement on Water Tap Fees. The HBA developed this policy to provide a minimum standard by which the HBA shall evaluate increases in system development charges (tap fees) when such increases are proposed by various water utilities.
To provide valuable guidance to industry members and home buyers alike, the HBA also occasionally develops manuals or guides on specific issues of interest.
- Dry Utilities Service Guidelines for Developers and Builders. Developed by the HBA’s Regulated Utilities Committee, the purpose of this booklet is to educate developers and builders working in the metro Denver area about the process for providing dry utility services to their end users.
- Homeowner’s Guide to Moisture Management. Developed by an HBA task force, this guide provides homeowners important information about their role in maintaining the structural integrity of the home, reducing maintenance problems, enhancing home durability and value, and reducing the potential for mold growth.
From time to time the HBA may commission research related to the housing industry. To assist in demonstrating that home building generates substantial local economic activity, including new income and jobs for residents, and additional revenue for local government, the HBA in partnership with the Urban Land Conservancy commissioned a study from the Housing Policy Department of the National Association of Home Builders. The June 2010 study, specific to the local economic impact of low income housing tax credit development along transit corridors in Metro Denver, was presented to local policy makers, public officials and for profit and non-proft developers. Key findings include:
- The estimated one-year metro area impacts of building 615 tax credit apartments in the 10-county Denver metropolitan statistical area (MSA) include:
- $57.6 million in local income
- $5.0 million in taxes and other revenue for local governments
- 732 local jobs
- The additional, annually recurring impacts of building 615 tax credit apartments in the Denver MSA include:
- $16.7 million in local income
- $2.3 million in taxes and other revenue for local goverments
- 192 local jobs
