NAHB State Representative May 2025 Report
Key NAHB Housing Issues
1. Good and Bad News on Lumber Production and Tariffs: Recent actions on the lumber front indicate that increased logging from federal lands and higher tariffs on Canadian lumber are in the offing later this year.
2. Economic Concerns Over the Tariffs: Markets are waiting for signs of trade deals that will avert economically damaging tariffs.
3. A Quick Start Out of the Gate: NAHB has made solid progress in advancing our housing policy objectives less than four months into the new Congress and administration.
4. Attend NAHB’s Legislative Conference on Wednesday, June 11. You can do your part to advocate for housing by participating in NAHB’s premier grassroots event – the Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. on June 11.
5. Immigration Reform: While the need for safe and secure borders is paramount, NAHB believes that mass deportation is not the answer because any shock to the labor force would have an adverse impact on housing costs and supply.
6. Housing Market Snapshot: Single-family housing starts, multifamily production and existing home sales all posted declines in March while new home sales registered a solid gain. Meanwhile, builder confidence in April rose one point to a reading of 40.
