Reasons to Join the HBA

Reasons to Join the HBA

For almost 8 decades, the HBA of Metro Denver (HBA) has been the home building industry’s one-stop resource for news, technological advances and professional development. And with the added power of the Colorado Association of Home Builders (CAHB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), members can enjoy even more events, networking opportunities, and access to the residential home building industry. Here are 10 reasons why joining the HBA will not only keep you on top of home building issues and allow you to make more informed decisions, but will also keep you one step ahead of the competition:

1. Aligning with influence in the home building industry, and taking advantage of your own company lobbyists, advocating on your behalf with cities and municipalities
Regulatory activities and changes frequently challenge every home builder’s ability to provide affordable housing. One of the HBA’s commitments to members is to defend the home building industry against harm in our eight-county, 32-municipality region. As a member of the HBA, you have representatives with your best interests in mind, and when issues arise, they are there to fight for you. Plus, the Metro Housing Coalition, HBA’s political action committee, vets and supports both local and statewide candidates with the goal of supporting a vibrant and affordable housing industry.

2. Staying up to date with your professional education
The HBA offers professional designations and continuing education programs for every member of your staff. These educational programs include sales, marketing, construction, management principles and general business.

3. Building valuable relationships
From big events, such as Builder Product Expo and the Parade of Homes Industry Night, to smaller get-togethers like barbeques and breakfasts, the HBA offers you a wide range of networking opportunities that help you to build strong, long-lasting relationships.

4. Taking advantage of member benefits
By joining the HBA, you automatically become a member of the CAHB and the NAHB. This provides you with more opportunities to take advantage of deep discounts on services that are vital to running your business. These members-only values include building materials rebates, general liability, workers’ compensation insurance, cell phone and IT services, office supplies, payroll and human services, and more.

5. Keeping up to date with vital information
One of the best ways for you to stay competitive is to be well informed. With access to members-only pages on this website, seminars, special interest councils and building permit reports, HBA members can easily keep up with industry changes that include technological innovations, green-building practices, code changes and leading-edge marketing strategies.

6. Gaining peer recognition
In any industry, peer recognition and acknowledgment are some of the highest forms of praise. The HBA’s award programs are no exception. Our MAME Awards honor members who stand out and celebrate their notable accomplishments. Additionally our HAP Awards honor the values of trust, communication, loyalty and ethics with HBA builder members in their business dealings with HBA associate members.

7. Enjoying the benefits of three-for-one membership
When you join the HBA, you automatically become a member of the Colorado Association of Home Builders — the CAHB — and the National Association of Home Builders — the NAHB. This means that you have three organizations that keep your success top of mind and are always quick to support your business and defend it from harmful regulatory and legislative changes.

8. Giving back to the community
If you’ve ever worked on a Home Builders Foundation (HBF) project, you know how good it feels to help someone in need. HBF is the HBA’s Charity of Choice, and their mission is “to build independence and provide opportunities to elevate lives for individuals and families with disabilities and our community.” The HBF executes their mission through home modifications that allow safety and independence within their home, and also the ability to access our community. For more information on HBF, visit hbfdenver.org.

9. Staying in the know through special publications
To help you stay on top of association and regulatory activities, the HBA also publishes a weekly e-newsletter, each week of every month:

  • Week 1: The Advocate updates members on important Advocacy issues and initiatives
  • Week 2: HBA Events & More keeps you up to date with HBA Events and other association happenings
  • Week 3: InterConnections HBA Membership Newsletter keeps you in the know as a member - including benefits, member news, etc.
  • Week 4: Collective Voice is a monthly digest of stories, articles, events and happenings around the HBA

As a member, you also have access to white papers, policy statements and technical guides that provide more information on specific topics as they become available

10. Becoming an industry leader
When you serve on an HBA committee or council, you have the chance
to grow your leadership skills. And because your local HBA membership also includes membership in the CAHB and the NAHB, there are plenty of additional opportunities to serve on statewide and national councils. Serving on councils and committees boosts your visibility within the industry and increases your awareness of how you are shaping the future of home building throughout the metro Denver area, Colorado and the United States.
