2025 President, Jason Brown: Year in Review
The HBA Annual Meeting was held Thursday, October 23rd at Marriott DTC. 2024 HBA Board President, Jason Brown, shared some thoughts about the state of the HBA and summarized key accomplishments in 2025.
"When I began this year, I shared three priorities for our industry:
- Attainable Housing
- Legislative Advocacy
- Improved Storytelling
These remain at the heart of our work as an association.
Attainable Housing
Let’s be honest: “attainable housing” may be the most overused phrase in our industry today. Everyone talks about it — from elected officials to city planners to talking heads on the television — but talk alone won’t put a roof over a family’s head.
The time is now for action. We must lead with fresh ideas, real solutions, and bold collaboration. As Peter Drucker said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
This year, we made progress. The Housing Affordability Bus Tour gave key municipal officials a front-row seat to real attainable housing solutions in action. We showcased what’s possible when public and private sectors work together.
But this can’t be a once-a-year event. Each of us needs to become a walking ambassador — sharing the story of how we can make attainable housing real, serving on planning commissions, and even stepping up to run for local office. Policy isn’t shaped in theory; it’s shaped by people who show up.
Another major step forward was the completion of our Local Government Impact Fee Study. By gathering data from 16 jurisdictions, we revealed something powerful: not only are fees high, but they vary dramatically from city to city. This data gives us a seat at the table — not just to react, but to lead meaningful conversations that move the needle.
Other Successes
I’m proud to highlight several other accomplishments this year — most notably, the ratification of a three-year strategic plan for our HBA. This was a team effort from the Executive Committee, staff, and Board of Directors.
This plan focuses on four key areas:
• Public Awareness
• Advocacy
• Membership
• Governance
It’s not just a document; it’s a roadmap for how we’ll grow stronger, more unified, and more influential as an industry.
Looking Ahead
We know the road ahead won’t always be easy. But if there’s one thing this industry has proven time and again, it’s resilience.
Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
And that’s exactly how we’ll face 2026 — together.
And as Tom Petty once sang, “Well, I won’t back down — no, I won’t back down.”
That’s not just a lyric; it’s the spirit of this industry. We don’t back down from challenges — we build through them.
Thank you for your trust, your passion, and your partnership. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished this year, and even more excited for what lies ahead.
Here’s to 2026 — and to continuing to build the future of homebuilding in Metro Denver."
