Remembering Rip Reid, HBA Past President

Robert “Rip” Reid, died unexpectedly January 17, 2026 in New York City while on vacation. He was born in Gary, Indiana January 14, 1949 and lived in Merrillville, Indiana until the age of 15, when his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Memorial High School in Tulsa and attended Oklahoma State University. He later attended the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. He joined the Marines in 1969 and fought in Vietnam where he was gravely wounded. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other battle commendations for his actions during the war. After more than a year in the hospital, Rip returned to Houston and later moved to Denver, CO where he launched a long lasting homebuilding career. After retirement, he ran a consulting business for local homebuilders. Rip loved fishing, golf, camping and skiing. He is survived by his wife, Susan Reid, his son David Reid, his stepson, William F. Whaley and his granddaughter, Lili Hart-Whaley as well as a sister, Debbie Reid and a nephew and niece. Rip is to be buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
